I disabled start up sound on windows 7 and it still plays – loudly! I even went to the extent to mute my computer and disable all sounds, and I still can’t silence the startup sound. It is really embarassing in a meeting or class.

I agree – it does not stop! Every time I restart my computer the sound is back and when I look at the control panel, “play windows sound” is checked again!

Why would anyone want a startup sound. What is its purpose?

What do you do when this doesn’t work. I have Sound Scheme: None, Play Windows Startup sound: unchecked and Sounds:None, and I still get the LOUD start-up sound.
