How To Prevent Access To Windows Update In Windows 7

Keeping your Windows 7 up-to-date is always necessary for better, secure and consistent performance of your PC. Hence it is recommended that you install Windows updates on regular basis or when they are made available by Microsoft. But for some reason, if you would like to disable access to Windows Update including access to Windows Update Web site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com, from the Windows Update hyperlink on the Start menu, and also on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, go ahead and follow these steps:

Login to your Windows 7 PC with Administrator rights.

1. Click Start button, type gpedit.msc in the programs search box and hit enter.

2. In the Group Policy Editor, navigate to User Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Windows Update.

In the right side pane, double-click on “Remove access to use all Windows Update features”.

3. Turn on “Enabled” option.

4. Click “OK”.

You are done. Now no one will be able to access to Windows Update website.

You can check it by clicking on “Start”—> All Programs –> Windows Update.

Windows Update will be inaccessible.
