How to boot to desktop mode in Windows 8

Windows 8 boot desktop

Microsoft introduced the brand new Start screen in Windows 8, which is great for the tablet users, but could be a little frustrating for the desktop users. Moreover, there are several people who don’t even use it. For them, the PC experience is a lot better if Windows can boot directly into the desktop mode after start up (sign in). Fortunately it is easier to achieve that.

While in desktop mode, right-click on the taskbar and choose “Properties”.

In the “Taskbar and Navigation Properties” dialog box, click on the “Navigation” tab. Check the option “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” in the ‘Start screen’ section.

Click OK. Log off or restart to let Windows boot into Desktop.
