It’s official now, Windows 10 will be released on July 29th and will be a free upgrade as a promotional offer to Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 devices provided the upgrade is done within one year. People can reserve their free upgrade starting today. When your upgrade is ready, the files needed will be downloaded to your PC as soon as it becomes available to make the final installation faster. Finally, after July 29, 2015, you will get a notification on your device to start the Windows 10 upgrade.
So how to reserve your Windows 10 copy?
If you have genuine Windows 7/8.1 installed and automatic updates turned ON, then you should see a new icon on taskbar which reads Get Windows 10 when you hover mouse over it.
If you haven’t got it yet, make sure to go to Windows Update Settings and make it to install updates automatically (recommended) and then you may immediately perform update and install it.
Windows will prompt for system restart for update to get installed. Restart Windows and then you should see the Get Windows 10 icon on taskbar. All you have to do is click on the icon and follow the simple on-screen instructions to reserve your Windows 10 copy!
