Windows 10 includes a feature called Cortana which is carried over from Windows Phone operating system. Cortana is a personal assistant similar to Google Now or Apple’s Siri. She helps you make things easier for you and keep you up to date on the things that matter to you. She responds to “Hey Cortana” voice command when microphone on your PC is configured well with Cortana.
When you upgrade your computer to Windows 10, first thing you will notice is the Cortana search box on the taskbar. You can quickly type things in the box which you want to ask Cortana instead of voice commands. For some reason if you just want to hide the taskbar search box, but still keep Cortana active, you can do it in some ways:
Right-click on the taskbar, click Cortana and select Hidden.
Search box will immediately disappear from the taskbar.
Note that Cortana will still respond to your voice command “Hey Cortana”. It will just pop-up on the taskbar.
Alternatively, you can choose Show Cortana icon option in the right-click context menu which shows only the Cortana icon (Circular dot) on the taskbar.
