Since Windows 8.1, the way we login to Windows has changed dramatically. What was once a simple PC dependent offline login and password is now a encrypted online account with login and password stored in Microsoft servers which is no longer PC dependent, but more of an operating system dependent across multiple devices. You can use the microsoft account to login to Windows 8.1 and above computers provided they are connected to internet.
For the sake of personalization and uniform experience across multiple devices, Microsoft syncs several things like theme, browser settings, password, language preferences, and other settings when you login into a Windows computer. This article’s focus is on the desktop theme that you have on your PC. For the sake of simplicity in explaining let us assume that you have Ferarri Theme on your Windows 10 Home PC. If you login to other Windows 10 PC (like a laptop in office) with the same microsoft account, you will see that the same desktop theme with its desktop background gets copied automatically into the new PC.
While this is a great feature for personalized experience, it may not be everybody’s taste, and may want the theme to be PC specific. Fortunately you can change the settings to not sync the theme. Your PC needs to be connected to internet for the changes to happen:
On your Windows 10 computer, click on Action Center icon on taskbar and then click on All Settings.
In System settings, click on Accounts.
Click Sync your settings and then under Individual sync settings, turn off the Theme item. You also have option to completely turn off Sync settings. You are done. Theme won’t get copied between multiple Windows 10 PCs now.
