How To Change Default Power Button Action In Windows 7

By default settings, you will notice that the “Power Button” action is set to “Shutdown” in Windows 7. You can change the settings to other options such as Switch User, Log Off, Lock, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate.

To modify the default Power Button action, follow these steps:

1. Right-click on the Start Button and select “Properties”.

2. In the “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” window, select the “Start Menu” tab.

3. In the Power button action section, click on the drop down list and select your choice from Switch User, Log Off, Lock, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate. For example, we selected “Log Off” option.

4.  Click “OK”.

Now click on the Start button and notice the change in the default Power Button action. In our case, it changed from Shutdown to Log Off.
