Kaspersky Free Cleaner for Windows
Kaspersky, the makers of the immensely popular Kaspersky Internet Security suite and anti-virus for Windows have come up with a free cleaning utility, compatible with Windows 10. Normally, this would just be another cleaner for Windows, but having seen the reputation of the developer, this sounds like something which every Windows user wants to try it out.
Primarily, Kaspersky Cleaner is similar to Ccleaner, but does something extra from security point of view. It can find out and fix loop holes of Windows, browser, and applications which serve as a backdoor for the malware intrusion. The user interface is modern, clean and has large icons that are touch friendly. It needs administrator privileges to run. First step is to hit the scan button and the tool starts to populate errors from 4 categories namely, System cleanup, System Settings, Private Browsing, and Remote activity traces.
‘System cleanup’ module cleans up temporary files, cache, and junk files.
‘System settings’ scans for security settings that are common points of getting infected with malware. Typical options include disabling autorun of external hard drives, and network drives, Registry editor blocked, task manager blocked, and plenty of other settings which should help you in making your PC safer.
During our review, we found the program’s cleaning ability at par with Ccleaner, which is yet another popular free utility from Piriform. By default settings, it won’t clean the internet browser’s cache, so make sure to check the browser cache boxes of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, and Opera if you want to clean everything on your PC. In comparison to Ccleaner, Kaspersky Cleaner doesn’t sport a registry cleaner, uninstall utility, live monitoring of PC, and disk wipe utility. It also doesn’t support Microsoft Edge browser as of now, but we expect it will make through in the final release version as the tool is still in Beta development phase.
Apart from that, Kaspersky Cleaner doesn’t show what is the size of the trash that is being cleaned, it only shows the number of overall problems. Also, it asks for restarting Windows to fix all problems. It comes with handy option to roll back changes if you think something is wrong after running the program. Note that Kaspersky Cleaner is only a system cleaner, and not a dedicated virus or malware removal tool, so you still need to use virus scanners, and internet security programs.
As of now, Kaspersky Cleaner Beta is a free software for everyone, and it worked flawlessly on our Windows 10 PC. If you already have Ccleaner, you may still need Kaspersky Cleaner because of system security settings checks and fixes which Ccleaner is not capable of.
