How To Hide Drive Icons In Windows 7 Explorer And My Computer
You may like to hide certain drives in your PC from being shown in “My Computer” or explorer. We will give you step-by-step guide on how to make a drive invisible. Note that this method will only hide the hard drive/CD/DVD drive. You can still access the drive by entering it’s full path like using “Run” dialog or command prompt. Disk management programs, and third party programs can still access these drives. This is a handy trick to hide your personal data in a hard drive from your kids or guests.
1. Login to your Windows 7 PC as Administrator.
2. Click Start, then type ‘gpedit.msc’ in the Start Menu search box and hit enter.
3. In the left pane of the Local Group Policy Editor window, navigate to User Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Windows Explorer.
4. In the right pane, scroll down the list to item ‘Hide these specified drives in My Computer’ and double-click on it.
5. Choose ‘Enabled’ option, and then select desired available drive letter combinations under the ‘Options’ drop-down list..
6. Click “Apply” and then “OK”.
You are done. You will now not see the restricted drive icon in “My Computer” and explorer window.
