How To Remove Metadata From Files In Windows 7?

Advertisements

Windows 7 has in-built feature which allows you to remove Metadata stored in Documents and Pictures. Meta data of a file stores information such as author, owner, company, copyright, date, tags, comments, camera model,  camera settings and image details in case of pictures, EXIF version etc. This information is helpful to the author or creator of the file. However some times you don’t want to share this private information with the world. In such cases you can scrub a file of unwanted metadata and keep your privacy using Windows 7 ‘Remove Properties and Personal Information’ feature.

How To Delete Metadata of Documents, Photos and Protect Your Privacy?

1. Select the file(s) for which you want to remove meta data.

2. Right-click on the file and select ‘Properties’.

3. Go to the ‘Details’ Tab.

5. In the ‘Remove Properties’ dialog, click ‘Remove the following properties from this file’ and tick all those Properties which you want to delete. In case you want to keep the original copy with all metadata intact,  select ‘Create a copy with all possible properties removed’.

Note that properties which do not have check boxes are not editable.

Nice tip. Can this be done on multiple files, or even better on a whole folder or library?

How do I make sure that Windows 7 users cannot alter/change/modify any information particularly the author and copyright information? This is likely the reverse question to your article entitled “How To Remove Metadata From Files In Windows 7?”which can be found at the following URL: .

I am interested to know how we can protect from pictures which, while being shared with everyone for free, we want to make sure that no one can claim to be the author of it.

    Thanks in advance.
