Advertisements

It’s important step to keep an eye on the start-up programs which start automatically as you logon to Windows. Many programs add their startup entry without user consent. Unnecessary start-up entries makes your Windows to start slowly. Hence it’s a good idea to perform a cleanup of unwanted items periodically. As in Windows XP, you can use MSCONFIG command to configure startup manager.

1. Click “Start” button.

2. Enter “MSCONFIG” in the program search box and hit enter.

msconfig

2.  In the “System Configuration” utility, click on “Startup” tab.

3. Here all the startup programs which start along with Windows automatically are listed. Uncheck the programs which can be started manually when needed. We recommend to leave security programs to startup automatically.

For example, in our case, you can see “AntiVir Desktop”, “Comodo Internet Security”, “Java Updater”, “NetWorx” “Adobe CS4 Service Manager” and “Connectify” items. These items are not necessary to startup automatically. We uncheck them.
