Windows 7 taskbar looks big and beautiful. But if you have a laptop with small screen size, the large taskbar may steal your valuable working space. In such scenarios, it’s a good idea to reduce the size of buttons and icons so that you get more working space.

Here are few simple steps:

1. Right-click in empty area of taskbar and click “Properties”.

2. In the “Taskbar and Start Menu” dialog box, check the box “Use Small Icons”.

Ok, I’m getting extremely frustrated right now, there is a registry setting that will change the size of the large icons on the taskbar buttons to be smaller (the small icons with the small icon setting suck. A small example is that in Windows Live Mail, small icons don’t show the little mail graphic if there is email in your box. They are also too small. I just reinstalled Windows 7, so I need to make the change again (YES, it CAN be done, I had it set up before and have been doing it since beta), unfortunately stupid articles like this have totally screwed up all the google results that might be looking for the real and good solution to this issue. After a few hours of digging my frustration has reached the point that I have to leave this message. Please, there are enough idiot guides out there for stupid people who can’t find a stupid box and click it.
