Windows 7 comes with beautiful transparency effects for window borders, taskbar and start-menu. These effects are a part of Aero Desktop experience. Hence you can see these effects only when you have enabled Aero effects. Note that Windows 7 Home Basic Edition and Starter Edition doesn’t support Aero and hence transparency effects are disabled.

By default, transparency effects are turned ON if minimum graphics requirements are met. Transparency effects do cost some memory of your PC. Hence may downgrade performance on a low end machine. You might consider turning this feature OFF.

1. Right-click on empty area of desktop and select “Personalize”.

2. In the Personalization window, click on “Window Color”.

Note that you need to have a Aero Theme applied for transparency effects.
