New Security Features In Windows 7

Windows 7 has a lot of enhancements and new features. One of the good improvements is seen in it’s Security features such as Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and it’s User Account Control (UAC). In this article we will review the important new features for security in Windows 7.

1. User Account Control (UAC)

This feature was introduced in Windows Vista. But it didn’t receive applause from public because of it’s intrusive nature. This feature always throws up number of warning every time you do installation or changes in the system configuration. It was irritating for almost all Windows Vista users.  Microsoft has enhanced this feature with improved architecture which is far less intrusive than in Windows Vista.

2. Windows Firewall

Till Windows XP, the Windows Firewall was one-way, protecting only from in-bound attacks. Microsoft introduced a two-way firewall in Windows Vista which monitors both in-bound and out-bound connections. In Windows 7, the firewall gets a new feature -adding multiple access firewall profiles. This feature provides protection for each connected network when you are connected to multiple networks at a time. The firewall interface is enhanced with advanced configuration in which administrators can have a refined control over the firewall rules and settings.

3. Windows Defender

Windows Defender is a free antispyware solution from Microsoft. Since it’s inception, it has come across major changes from being called Microsoft Antispyware to now a much more advanced Windows Defender.  The program has a real-time scanner which continuously protects PC from spyware flooded in the web world. The Windows 7 version of Windows Defender has a new interface with more easily understandable options and less intrusive.

4. Windows Biometric Service

Windows 7 comes preloaded with Biometric Service which provides fingerprint support where a user should swipe his finger to logon to the computer. This is a great feature which should improve the security of your computer.

5. Data encryption BitLocker Drive Encryption

Yet another security feature is the BitLocker Drive Encryption in which you can encrypt the entire drive so that it becomes unreadable in case of theft or loss of your PC. Windows 7 allows you to encrypt even the external portable media like Flash drives and memory cards. This feature is only available in Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate editions.
