How To Prevent Users from Deleting Browsing History, Temporary Files and Clearing Cookies in Internet Explorer 8?

In the past we have shown how to delete browsing history and temporary internet files from Internet Explorer 8. Being the administrator of your PC, you may want to prevent users of your PC from deleting browsing history, temporary files, stored passwords and clearing cookies. This article describes the steps for Windows Vista or Windows 7.

How to Disable Deleting Browsing History, Temporary Files, Stored Passwords, and Cookies from Internet Explorer 8?

1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc in the ‘Search box’ and hit enter.

2. This will launch Local Group Policy Editor. In the left pane, propagate through Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Internet Explorer\ Delete Browsing History..

3. In the right pane, right-click on “Prevent Deleting Cookies”.

4. In the following window, make it “Enabled” and click OK.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each item (shown in below image) in the list like “Prevent Deleting Temporary Internet Files”, “Prevent Deleting Form Data”,  “Prevent Deleting Passwords”, etc.

6. You are done. Open Internet Explorer 8 and check to see the Delete Browsing History options in the Internet Options are disabled.

    IE 8.0.6001 w/ Vista… gpedit.msc not found.

    I’m trying to stop the auto-deletion of my IE cache when I ran across this article.

    I got Window 7 home premium and the set up is different as the gpedit.msc is not available, there is any other way to stop delrting history? Thanks John
