How To Configure Windows 7 User Account Control (UAC) Feature In Windows 7

Google Buzz

Like Windows Vista, Windows 7 too has User Account Control (UAC), feature which notifies the user of various system level changes made by programs. These are in the form of popup alerts which asks for your decision while installing a software that makes changes in the Windows registry or system files.

UAC in Windows 7 is optimized and shows less alerts compared to Windows Vista. Depending upon your needs you can configure UAC in different ways. To launch UAC:

1. Type UAC in to the start menu search box and hit enter

2. This will launch User Account Control. You will notice a slider with 4 step points. Using this you can control UAC as per your needs.

UAC

  • Always notify me - This setting will make UAC to prompt for alert whenever software tries to make changes to to your PC, or when you make changes in Windows settings. This will result in too many alerts.
  • Default - This setting will make UAC to notify only when you make changes to Windows settings. It will not notify when you change system settings manually.
  • No Dimming - This setting is same as “Default” settings except, the system will not dim during the prompt. This can be used if your system is too slow to dim the desktop.
  • Never notify - This will entirely disable the UAC and hence no prompts. This is not recommended for basic users. This should be used only when you know what exactly you are doing or when you are sure that you are installing a trusted application always.
  • Click “OK” after you are done.
