How to Open Microsoft Office 2007 Documents in Office 2003 or 2000

You might have come across scenarios in which you have received a Microsoft Office 2007 document such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint from your friend and your older version MS Office suite is not able to open it due to downward compatibility issue. To open documents created in higher versions of Office suite, you need to download and install Compatibility Pack.

By installing the compatibility pack you can open, edit, and save documents (.doc), workbooks(.xls), and presentations(.ppt)  using the file formats in newer versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint . It also works with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats.

Follow these steps:

1. The first step is to update Windows.  Make sure you have installed all the “High Priority” updates. Restart your PC if prompted by Windows.

2. Download Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats

3. Install the downloaded FileFormatConverters.exe program file.

You are done.
